In 1987, jazz fans and the media worldwide acknowledged Benny Carter's 80th birthday. With less fanfare, but far more significance, Carter also entered perhaps his most prolific period as a composer since his heyday in the Hollywood studios in the 1950s and 1960s. Unlike that era, when countless Carter melodies contributed subliminally to our enjoyment of a film or television show, his current writing is where it belongs: in the spotlight. And best of all, it is interpreted by the composer himself.
