About

It is written that every night, Louis XIV called upon his “maître de guitare du Roy”, Robert de Viseé to perform an hour music for his enjoyment. That just shows how important Lute music was at that time.

During the 17th century, the Lute reached the height of its popularity in France. The composers of the time created a unique aesthetic that would have far-reaching stylistic influences even outside of France.

This CD presents representative masterpieces of the French Lute School in works of Robert de Viseé, Charles Mouton, Jacques Gallot and “Vieux” Gaultier in exemplary interpretations.
