About

David Snell is a brilliant, versatile and open-minded musician and composer and on this CD presents chamber music for harp, with flute, clarinet, French horn, violin, viola and cello in different combinations. Representing several years of composition, the styles here reflect this versatility and technique, drawn from David’s own career as an eminent harpist. Becoming famous for his creative, progressive approach to harp, coupled with the sheer virtuosity of his playing, David excelled not only in the classical field, but became the first-call player for any recording sessions requiring harp.

He began his professional career as harpist with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, then later the orchestra of the Royal Opera House. In addition, he freelanced as a session player. Today, he conducts with the LSO, RPO, Orchestre de Paris and others – principally in conducting scores for many films.

As a composer, David has created for television, radio and film. His classical works include song cycles (for soprano and harp), a Requiem, Divertimento for Strings and many chamber works.

All of the featured works are very accessible, with Elégie (for flute, cello and harp) destined to become an airplay favourite.

The booklet has notes written by the composer and translated into French and German.

Skaila Kanga has worked with many of today’s musical superstars as well as performing with world famous orchestras under the great conductors. She has extensive credits in the recording world. For 25 years she was the harpist with the Nash Ensemble and principal harp with Academy of St Martins-in-the-Fields and the London Mozart Players. She is also Head of Harp Studies at the Royal Academy of Music.

Other performers featured on this recording are Karen Jones (flute), Judith Busbridge (viola), Caroline Dearnley (cello), Nicholas Bucknall (clarinet), Richard Bissill (French horn) and Marcia Crayford (violin).
