Alicja Fiderkiewicz (piano)About
Alicja Fiderkiewicz was born in Warsaw, Poland. She began to learn the piano at the age of seven; two years later she was accepted by the Central School of Music in the Moscow Conservatoire. In 1971 she came to England and entered the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester to study with the Polish pianist Professor Ryszard Bakst. She graduated in 1977 with distinctions in both teaching and performing.
Having made her début in London’s Wigmore Hall in 1975, in more recent years Alicja Fiderkiewicz has performed extensively in Poland, Soviet Union, Italy, Switzerland, Israel, Spain, Japan, and Great Britain. She has appeared as a soloist with numerous orchestras and has recorded for the BBC, both for radio and television. In addition to her busy performing career, Alicja Fiderkiewicz exercised her considerable teaching skills for a number of years as a member of staff of the Keyboard Department of Chetham’s School of Music in Manchester, an association which still continues through being a member of the teaching Faculty at the annual summer school for pianists.
