Sir Roger NorringtonAbout
Roger Norrington became principle conductor for the Camerata in 1997 and he brought the musicians a sense of stability they so desperately needed after the death of artistic director Sándor Végh. Norrington's distinctive style was something the audience could depend on and look forward to. When Roger Norrington performed his first "encounter concert" with the Camerata at the large hall of the Salzburg Mozarteum in the spring of 1998, he was carrying on the tradition his deceased predecessor Sándor Végh had established.
Norrington developed the Salzburg festival into three day 'encounters' with particular composers like Schubert, Schumann and Brahms, drawn from his experience in period performance practice.
