About

Charles Camilleri, born in 1931 in Hamrun, Malta, is today recognised as one of the most individual composers of our time. His early nationalistic works, already internationally known, are simply described by the composer as “music of my people to my people” - “I owe everything to my country, its people, its language and the sea that surrounds the island.”
Camilleri’s journey has taken him from simple diatonic and modal folk melodies to complex yet communicative mature works in which the bar-line often has little place, in which nothing is fixed and his compositions evolve from themselves with a sense of fluency and inevitability. Timelessness and universality are among the inspirations for his more recent music, as demonstrated by the piano works issued to celebrate the Millennium (“Celestial Harmonies – Divine Art 25012).
According to the RED catalogue and Gramofile, there are no other recordings of these works currently available.
This delightful music is very accessible and is sure to be seen by many as an amazing discovery.
Brian Schembri started his music studies with his father Carmelo Schembri in his native Malta, establishing himself as a highly talented young concert pianist and has worked as a conductor with many orchestras across Europe.
