Gerhard Weinberger (organ)About
CPO’s highly acclaimed complete recording of Bach’s organ works hurtles toward its completion with this, the penultimate volume. On Vol. 20 Gerhard Weinberger interprets further organ works of doubtful authenticity ascribed to Johann Sebastian Bach on two marvellous organs of the eighteenth century.
The program includes organ chorales, chorale trios, and chorale arrangements exhibiting numerous features of Bach’s style as well as the Eight Little Preludes and Fugues BWV 553-560.
The accompanying booklet, including a commentary by Weinberger himself and a solidly researched text by Reinmar Emans on questions of authenticity, merits attention.
“Weinberger is a consummate professional and one who, as any resourceful organist would, makes whatever instrument he plays sound as if it’s ideal for the repertoire at hand.” Classics Today
