About

Gianandrea Noseda and the BBC Philharmonic continue their spectacular survey, with volume 3 of the complete Symphonic Poems of Franz Liszt.

The previous two volumes have received impressive reviews.  Volume 2 was described by Gramophone as offering ‘a performance of supreme clarity and assurance, showing Liszt’s transformation of themes and characters at its height… you could hardly wish for more eloquent advocacy’, and Volume 3 is certain to strengthen this decidedly collectable series.

Noseda’s passionate conducting and innate Italian romanticism bring this music to life, and are perfectly captured in these electrifying performances of four symphonic poems, including the legendary Prometheus and vividly imagined Mazeppa, his most pictorially descriptive work in the genre, based on Victor Hugo’s poem of the same name.  These well-known works are coupled with the two rarer programmatic works, Festklänge and Héroïde.
