About
This album gathers together some of Andrea’s most cherished performances with VOCES8, alongside collaborations with the English Chamber Orchestra, Les Inventions, the VOCES8 Foundation Orchestra, and clarinettist Julian Bliss. It spans repertoire from the Renaissance to the present day – from Allegri’s Miserere mei, Deus and Barber’s Agnus Dei to new music by Lucy Walker, and beloved arrangements by John Cameron, Barnaby Smith, and Jim Clements.
The title track, Lux Aeterna, bookends the album in two glowing versions, framing highlights that include Fauré’s Pie Jesu, Stanford’s The Blue Bird, and Andrea’s unforgettable solos in Purcell’s Fairest Isle and Britten’s For I Will Consider My Cat Jeoffry.
Beautifully presented with photography from Andrea’s time in the group, and featuring a souvenir poster, Radiance pays tribute to Andrea’s luminous contribution to the VOCES8 sound world – a voice that has inspired audiences and colleagues alike across countless concerts and recordings.
Andrea’s love of singing started early, as a member of the children's choir in her small parish church choir in Kent, England. She spent her teenage years joining as many choirs as she could, including youth choirs of the Royal School of Church Music, and then study Music at Cardiff University, before joining the British vocal ensemble VOCES8 in 2008.
As a member of VOCES8, Andrea toured extensively worldwide, giving around 120 concerts each year, and performing an extensive repertoire between a cappella concerts and collaborations with leading orchestras, conductors and soloists. During her 17 years in the group, she has recorded more than 20 albums with VOCES8, with music ranging from Bach’s motets to Radiohead. In addition to performance, music education workshops and masterclasses have formed a core part of her work, working with thousands of students each year. She also managed VOCES8’s social media, and produced many of the graphic designs and digital media assets for the group in recent years.
Beyond her commitments with VOCES8, Andrea has enjoyed singing in concert for a range of other artists, from Eric Whitacre to Lambchop. She’s particularly known for her clarity of tone, and floated high register.
Whether at home or on the road, Andrea loves great food, fine gin, and endeavours to carry with her a yoga mat, watercolours, and a good stash of cake at all times.
