The Ensemble für frühe Musik Augsburg (Augsburg Early Music Ensemble), founded in 1977, was one of the first medieval ensembles, playing a key role in bringing medieval music to life. Over the decades, it has released a total of 15 CDs on the Christophorus label, which are now available for the first time as a box set.

The box set highlights many areas and aspects of medieval music. Themes include the music of the troubadours, trouvères and minnesingers, with a particular focus on the German-speaking world, as well as sacred music associated with the pilgrimage to Santiago, Hildegard von Bingen and Christmas in the Middle Ages.

The recordings by the Ensemble für frühe Musik Augsburg combine a thorough musicological foundation with great enthusiasm, without resorting to gimmicky flourishes. All members sing and/or play several instruments, which guarantees a wide variety of sounds. With this diversity, this 15-CD box set offers a compendium of the Middle Ages that is unique in its form.
