The ensemble has delved deep into the Christmas music repertoire of Denmark and Sweden, curating a selection of both beloved holiday classics and rarely heard gems by Carl Nielsen and Rued Langgaard, concluding with a festive New Year's potpourri. A rich collection of atmospheric interpretations, where the quiet reflection of Christmas meets the life-affirming energy of folk music.

Singing is an essential part of Danish Christmas traditions, both in church and at home, where families sing and dance around the Christmas tree. It is that time of the year where Danes come together, singing well-known and beloved hymns and folk melodies.

For this album, the ensemble Dybfølt has put together a selection of both famous and unknown winter and Christmas songs from the Danish and Swedish repertoire.

The ensemble presents fresh and original interpretations of the melodies, drawing from their Nordic folk music background and incorporating elements from both Middle Eastern music, klezmer, sacred music and classical Western music.

The atmosphere spans from introspection and meditation, reflecting the dark nights and clear light of the Nordic winter, to festive dances around the Christmas tree and celebrative music for New Year’s Eve.

The album features songs by famous Danish composers such as Carl Nielsen, Per Nørgård and Rued Langgaard and an interpretation of Det ären ros utsprungen/Es ist ein Ros entsprungen, in Swedish composer Jan Sandström’s iconic choral arrangement for 12 voices, here performed by the ondes martenot.
