This recording of 20 of the 66 Lyric Pieces by Edvard Grieg, which the Russian keyboard grandmaster Emil Gilels recorded in 1972, can undoubtedly be regarded as a milestone in piano history. Although Grieg's lyrical pieces have a reputation for being manageable even for amateurs, the dynamic and colourful richness of nuance that Gilels brings to the compositions is certainly in a league of its own.
