Europadisc Review
Reviews
Isabelle Faust’s canonic versatility extends beyond repertoire towards an incisive exploration of the stylistic landscape at hand. Her recordings of the celebrated unaccompanied and duo (with obbligato harpsichord) sets for violin are testament to Faust’s deeply embedded identification with Bach on these terms. This programme of sonatas with continuo represents something of an appendix to the two main collections, if only because of the underlying sense of recreational opportunism in both Bach’s conception of each work and the performer’s assembly of them. ... throughout this programme, we are treated to Bach duo-playing of exemplary engagement and purring quality. Jonathan Freeman-Attwood
