About

*** Vinyl LP ***

Idil Biret’s early Paris Recordings (1949–1959) highlight her remarkable journey from a child prodigy to an acclaimed pianist. After joining the Paris Conservatoire at the age of eight, she studied with esteemed teachers like Nadia Boulanger. In 1953, Biret performed at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées with the Orchestre de la Société des Concerts du Conservatoire under Joseph Keilberth, sharing the stage with legendary pianist Wilhelm Kempff. This collaboration marked a significant milestone in her career. A defining moment came in 1955 when Arthur Rubinstein, impressed by her sensitivity and technical mastery, predicted she would become one of the great pianists. Biret’s repertoire during these years ranged from Baroque works by Bach to Romantic composers like Schumann and Brahms, reflecting both her versatility and deep musical insight. These historic recordings capture the spirit of post-war Paris and the emergence of a pianist destined for an extraordinary international career.
