Lea Suter showcases these unique capabilities, demonstrating the wealth of inspiration in such well-known works as Chromatic Fantasia and Fugue, Partita in E minor and even the grandiose Chaconne in D minor. Originally for violin, Suter imitates the affects triggered by the violinist's bow pressure and speed by varying the pressure applied to the keys. This responsiveness reveals a level of intimate intensity that is far greater than either the harpsichord or even the modern grand piano. The delicate touch and distinctive sound have made the clavichord a favourite - even Bach preferred to play Chaconne on the clavichord, adding extra notes to draw out the full harmonies.
