About

Antonín Dvořák's poignant Stabat Mater, op.58, is rightly one of the most popular and most frequently performed sacred works of the late Romantic period.

Composed between February 1876 and November 1877 and premiered in Prague in 1880, this masterpiece was his first and most extensive sacred work. It is characterised by an often elegiac, but occasionally also dramatic tone. Both poles are perfectly realised in this recording by COVIELLO with the Bochum Symphony Orchestra and the Chorwerk Ruhr under Florian Helgath as well as an excellent ensemble of soloists.
