Alvise de Piero (harpsichord)About
172 pieces, 400 movements, three compositional decades: this is the magnitude of the keyboard Sonatas of Galuppi. The indeterminacy of a specific instrument and the cultural influence of several European countries provide his music with a heterogeneous character both in formal and stylistic terms.
The Sonatas included in this album come from several manuscripts and their musical language delivers a broad sample of Buranello's varying compositional styles.
Alvise de Piero (b. Venice, 1974) mainly works with instrumental and vocal music of the eighteenth century, especially the Venetian school. He specialised in harpsichord and ancient keyboard instruments under the guidance of Christopher Stembridge, and attended a PhD in Musicology and Musical Heritage at the University of Bologna.
"Alvise de Piero has researched Galuppi's 172 keyboard sonatas, publishing many, and so this recording has authority." - Choir & Organ (4 stars)
