About
Emily White is professor of sackbut and trombone at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama, sackbut and trombone tutor at The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, and trombone teacher at Wells Cathedral School. She enjoys both contemporary and early music and works in both fields. Her first solo disc, A Cry Was Heard (hailed as 'art of the highest order' by The Trombonist) was released with Deux-Elles in 2022 and features her own composition. With her trio, Pandoras Box, Emily has taken improvisatory programmes across the UK, Europe and the USA. Emily is a member of Il Giardino Armonico and The English Cornett & Sackbut Ensemble (ECSE), and frequently performs with Alte Musik Berlin, B’Rock and Les Talens Lyrique. She was awarded the Sheila Tracy Player of the Year award by the British Trombone Society in 2022, is a Conn Selmer Artist, and has an ARAM from The Royal Academy of Music for services to Early Music.
Equally at home as recitalist and chamber musician, Sam Haywood embraces a wide spectrum of the piano repertoire. He toured as a duo for many years with Joshua Bell and has often collaborated with cellist Steven Isserlis. His popular "Musical Liaisons" recital programmes comprise famous works performed in pairs with lesser known gems. He has composed several miniatures, including "The Other Side", the premiere of which was given at the Konzerthaus in Vienna. He has also given world premieres of works by Howard Goodall, John McLeod and Jelena Poulíčková. Sam is co-founder and Artistic Director of the Solent Music Festival in Lymington, Hampshire, which also includes the prestigious Lawson-May Award for Composition.
