Reviews
... this ‘Tempus omnia vincit’ conversation between Purcell, Josquin and Schubert proclaims loud and clear that we’re in the company not just of a supremely accomplished ensemble from a technical perspective but also of philosophers, historians and storytellers. ... Beautiful stuff, while also being something you can get your intellectual teeth into. Charlotte Gardner
The Protean Quartet, schooled in Berlin and Basel in what’s called “historically aware” performances, announce that one of their specialties is promoting Spain’s musical heritage. That would appear to leave out Schubert and Purcell, the main composers in Tempus omnia vincit, although their music is played with such volatility that the pair seem to have become temporary Spanish citizens. The approach especially suits Purcell... Josquin des Prez’s version of the French chanson Mille regretz is another beneficiary. Geoff Brown
