It features the brilliant viola player and regular Quatuor Ébčne collaborator Antoine Tamestit.
When the artists performed K515 a few years ago, Bachtrack wrote in a 4-star review: “There are few works in the classical repertoire as expansive as Mozart’s Quintet in C major, K515 … Its long arching phrases were captured brilliantly here by the Ebčne Quartet and viola player Antoine Tamestit, who brought out not just the work’s luminous elements but also its darker, wistful undercurrents.”
Reviews
In a less than congested field, the standout recordings of Mozart’s quintets have been the venerable Philips set from Grumiaux and friends and the Nash Ensemble, 2010 vintage. The Quatuor Ébčne and viola player Antoine Tamestit start with the advantage of a more transparent recording than either. This, allied to their care for balance, means that no detail of Mozart’s miraculous inner part-writing escapes the ear. Richard Wigmore (Recording of the Month)
