The Live Icelandic Recordings 1970-80
Volume 3 in the tribute series to Erling Blöndal Bengtsson sees yet more rare concert recordings being issued - a cello concerto, a sonata and a solo cello work never before recorded.
Using Icelandic Radio tapes and issued for the first time, Erling Blöndal Bengtsson plays Kabalevsky’s soulful Concerto No.1 and is then joined by his pianist-friend Anker Blyme for Mendelssohn’s glorious D major sonata. Finally, a novelty solo item, Andre Jolivet’s unpredictable Suite en Concert.
“All enthusiasts of the cello will appreciate this new Danacord CD. I was particularly impressed with the Mendelssohn Sonata. However, the two ‘novelties’ (for me) were also striking. It is a superbly balanced programme of music that is stunningly played.” – MusicWeb International
