About
One of the few orchestral principals of international standing who plays on a modern wooden flute, Daniel Pailthorpe has gained a worldwide following for the uniqueness and breadth of his sound, as well as for the warmth of his musicianship.
Daniel Pailthorpe is a familiar face from the BBC Last Night of the Proms, as Co-Principal Flute of the BBC Symphony Orchestra, especially in the Sailor’s Hornpipe!
On this recording he is accompanied in the Sonatas by Julian Milford on a modern piano.
The disc also includes the famous Orchestral Suite in B minor, recorded with the London Conchord Ensemble on modern instruments, about which Gramophone magazine said: “The best thing on this disc is the performance by Daniel Pailthorpe, thrown off with splendid vigour and virtuosity”.
Daniel Pailthorpe is a founder member of London Conchord Ensemble with which he has recorded solo and chamber works. Professor at the Royal College of Music, he is a keen advocate of the modern wooden flute and enjoys a busy freelance career appearing frequently as guest principal with many other orchestras, notably the London Symphony Orchestra and the Chamber Orchestra of Europe.
